The Completed Home Certification Process
Completed homes can also be evaluated to see if they meet the Energy StarŽ Homes performance standards.

This is generally a Two Part Process.

- Part One is a On-Site Inspection, Data Collection, and Blower Door Pressure Diagnostic Testing of the home.

- Part Two is using that information to model the home "As Built" in the HERS Software to determine if it meets EPA Energy Star Homes standards.

The Combined Fee for Part One & Part Two for a Single Family Home is as follows:

Please Note: This evaluation process is for guidance purposes only and does not guarantee that the completed dwelling will be certified as an Energy StarŽ labeled home. If the home does not score 86 or higher on the HERS Scale this fee includes as many “What If” scenario's as needed to determine the most practical and cost effective ways to bring it up to Energy StarŽ Homes standards.

What is an Energy StarŽ Qualified Home?

A US Department of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Energy StarŽ Labeled Home is a single or multi-family unit built to be 30% more energy efficient than the same dwellings built to the Model Energy Code (CABO-MEC). To meet this standard, the home must be evaluated by a third party nationally accredited Home Energy Rating Systems (HERS) energy professional, and the dwelling must score at 86 points or higher on the national HERS Scale. Only after the energy performance of each completed dwelling unit has been verified as meeting this higher standard may the builder label it as an Energy StarŽ Home. Upon receiving this written third party verification, EPA will allow the Energy StarŽ label to be affixed to the home's breaker box to acknowledge the home has attained Energy StarŽ standards.

Some Benefits of the EPA Energy StarŽ Homes Program are:

Energy StarŽ helps Homebuyers, Lenders, Builders/GC's, Developers and Architects balance existing building techniques and components for maximum energy performance at minimal (or no) added costs.

Energy StarŽ provides independent confirmation to Consumers that the home is built to meet an established, nationally recognized level of energy performance.

Energy StarŽ provides an excellent match for financing through the HUD/FHA, VA, or Fannie Mae Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM) products.

Energy StarŽ encourages SOLAR options as part of the building package.

Energy StarŽ is identified as one of the standards to be used in a number of proposed state and federal energy efficiency and energy tax credit programs.

HORIZON - RES is a registered EPA Energy StarŽ Homes Partner and can work as the third party verifier with you, your Builder, and your Lender to put together a Energy StarŽ Homes building and financing package that will save you money every month you live in your home. As the price of energy rises, so will your savings.
